Good Bones; Great Pieces: The Seven Essential Pieces That Will Carry You Through a Lifetime

[audiobook] Good Bones; Great Pieces: The Seven Essential Pieces That Will Carry You Through a Lifetime by Lauren McGrath; Suzanne McGrath at Arts-Photography

Description

Donald Richie takes the reader on a revealing tour of the different districts of Japans capital city. Starting from the original centre of Tokyo ndash; the Imperial Palace ndash; Richie branches outwards; taking in other areas such as Yoshiwara; the original red-light district; and Ginza; the world-famous shipping street. The author has kept a diary for the entire time he has lived in Tokyo; and excerpts from it provide on-the-spot insights into the significance of fashions and fads in Japanese culture (for example the recent Tamagochi craze); as well as the various aspects of life in a small neighbourhood. Richie gives a real sense of how Japanese society has changed since the Second World War; yet remained rooted in its past. With the eclectic eye and ear of a film-maker; Richie describes the flavour and idiosyncracies of this chaotic; teeming city. Tokyois illustrated with 30 illuminating photographs by Seattle-based photographer; Joel Sackett.

Love this book!By LadybugIt sounds a little crazy to say this. but this book really opened my eyes to the possibility of using one piece of furniture in multiple ways. in multiple rooms of the house. Of course I knew I could do that in theory. but since reading Good Bones. Great Pieces. I am actually looking at my furniture in a whole new light--almost as if each piece is brand new. with no history of being in "that same old corner." I suddenly feel a lot more freedom to change things up and move things around. And I dont even have most of the pieces of furniture featured in this book!Overall. this book was a great read--start to finish--and I will definitely be consulting its pages again!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I got some guidance also from the book on which items I might select when flea marketing. There are pictures and suggestions about the use of the basic items of furniture the author finds most versatile and attractive.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not a bad book but. not what I expectedBy MJ2012This book is good for readers who are looking for decorating ideas. I wasnt too impressed. I would have preferred a book that showed side by pictures of what not to do with the specific "good bones and great furniture pieces" and then how it should look with the furniture. Basically before and after pictures...not pictures of perfectly pulled together rooms. In my opinion most DIY decorators want to work with their existing furniture pieces and add budget friendly accents to pull together their desired look.
