Great Little Books on The History of Various U.S. Towns and Places!By LaudesIf youre interested in the history of Los Angeles; or that of southern California in general; youll l ike this; in fact; youll probably enjoy all of the "Images of America" series books. They each deal with the history of cities in the greater L.A. area; theyre all wonderful; each having some very old (and almost always high-quality) photos of an area; its early settlements; structures; roads; ranches; layouts maps; and people; through the years and often right up to present times. The information in these books is useful and interesting; though hardly exhaustive. They are more a jumping-off place for further reading or study; a source of fascinating; often rare photos /illustrations of a places history; plus info and anecdotes often not found in many (- or ANY) other sources. Theyre also great just for an historical overview of places in which you live; or have lived; etc.I especially enjoyed this book; on Garvanza; a small and very old place my husband I came across by accident one day. We had no idea of how much history this place has. If you live in L.A. and (/or) are interested in its history; youll enjoy this book; as well as the series treatments of many other towns/areas nearby. If youre interested in the history of towns/areas/etc. in other U.S. states; youll almost certainly enjoy this series entry on your hometown/current location. We have enjoyed every book in this series that weve read so far - mainly those on our area; but also on places all around California!
