The title is a bit misleading. The title implies the recording sessions for their various records and songs. It contains much more. This book does not simply give the data about their recording sessions. This book also consists of a compilation of the information about the interviews; press conferences and press stories the Beatles gave during their career. For example; February 11; 1964; was a very busy day for the group. On that afternoon; documentary filming was made by the Maysles crew on a train from New York to Washington; a newsreel filmed in Union Station; D.C.; a press conference recorded at the Washington Coliseum; a TV interview recorded at the Washington Coliseum; then; radio interviews for WWDC-AM; WCAO-AM; WMUC-AM; and WINS-AM; all recorded at the Washington Coliseum; a radio interview done at the Washington Coliseum. The Beatles then played a concert at; you guessed it; the Washington Coliseum. After that; the Beatles were at the British Embassy; where they gave a TV and radio interview. (Oh; the life of a rock star!)For every interview; every press conference; every recording session; the authors give the date; time; and location of the encounter; the length of the interview or recording session; for studio recording sessions; what songs were recorded; and the titles of the unauthorized CDs or DVDs where the recording may be found. This information is given for every year before the break-up of the Beatles. The first volume comprises the years of 1957 through 1965.The second volume consists of the years 1966 through 1970.These books are highly recommended.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Amazing research!By R. A. BurkeThis meticulously researched book; the first volume of a two volume set; is geared primarily to people who just cant get enough of the Fab Four. Way Beyond Compare details The Beatles recorded legacy starting in 1957 and concluding with the recording of the Rubber Soul album in 1965. John C. Winns excellent work offers exhaustive coverage of every Beatles recording; interview; concert; or other event. Besides providing a wealth of musical analysis; Winn also includes the sources for each including bootlegs. Way Beyond Compare and its sister volume; That Magic Feeling; make a nice companion piece to Mark Lewisohns "The Beatles Recording Sessions." Way Beyond Compare is informative and well-written. Reading it will give a lasting impression of the crazy world in which the early Beatles dwelt: an unending parade of appearances; interviews; concerts; tours; and recording dates. Dont go here if youre looking for gossip; photos of the Fab Four; stories about fans; or an analysis of The Beatles and their influence on the culture of the Sixties - this ones for true Beatlemaniacs only.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
