A tremendously insightful biography of the man who helmed the Velvet Underground and single-handedly created alternative rock This book covers not only the highlights of Reeds career; but explores lesser-known facets of his work; such as his first recordings with doo-wop group the Jades; his key literary influences; the impact of Judaism upon his work; and his engagement with the LGBT movement. Drawing from original interviews with many of his artistic collaborators; friends; and romantic partners; as well as from archival material; concert footage; and unreleased bootlegs of live performances; Dirty Blvd. exposes the man behind the myth; the notoriously uncompromising rock poet who wrote songs that transcended their genre and established himself as one of the most influential and enigmatic American artists of the past half century.

McDonagh brings a hell of an English ride to the stage.Generating the same crazy premises as well as the addicting dialogue. McDonagh hooks you and doesnt let you go until the end. Just like LoI. its a roller coaster. but I think his themes are more identifiable and the message is clear; the justice system. wherever you go. doesnt really care. The dialogue makes you cringe while laughing and leaves you gripping the corner of the book at times. the author has always had this effect on his readers (and viewers when its produced into a play) and Hangmen is no exception. The pacing is (I dont use this word lightly) phenomenal. The message satirical but is built with more than a few layers of truth. The only con to this play is that youll be left wanted more by the end.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
