The Last Sultan is the definitive biography of a man who changed popular culture throughout the world. As the founder and head of Atlantic Records; Ahmet Ertegun signed and/or recorded many of the greatest musical artists of all time; among them Ruth Brown; Big Joe Turner; Ray Charles; Bobby Darin; Sonny and Cher; Eric Clapton; Buffalo Springfield; Crosby; Stills; Nash Young; Led Zeppelin; the Rolling Stones; Bette Midler; and Kid Rock. Working alongside his older brother; Nesuhi; one of the preeminent jazz producers of all time; and the legendary Jerry Wexler; who produced great soul artists like Wilson Pickett; Solomon Burke; and Aretha Franklin; Ertegun transformed Atlantic Records from a small independent record label into a hugely profitable multinational corporation. In successive generations; he also served as a mentor to record-business tyros like Phil Spector; David Geffen; and Lyor Cohen. Brilliant; cultured; and irreverent; Ertegun was as renowned for his incredible sense of personal style and nonstop A-list social life as his work in the studio. Born into great privilege as the son of a high-ranking Turkish diplomat during the last days of the Ottoman Empire; Ertegun spent his life bringing the black-roots music he loved to the world. A larger-than-life figure; always hip; Ertegun lived in the grand manner but was never happier than when he found himself in some down-and-out joint listening to music late at night. Blessed with impeccable taste and brilliant business acumen; he brought rock rsquo;nrsquo; roll into the mainstream while creating the music that became the sound track for the lives of multiple generations. With supporting characters like Steve Ross; Henry Kissinger; Mick Jagger; Keith Richards; Jann Wenner; and a host of others; The Last Sultan is the fascinating story of a man who always lived by his own rules.

I canrsquo;t tell you how much I loved looking at the detail that Marsha puts into her ...By kerry rushtonMarsharsquo;s work is EXQUISITE! yeshellip; capital letters and all. Each page delights and yells ldquo;how did she do that?rdquo;. I revelled in the wonder of each page. I canrsquo;t tell you how much I loved looking at the detail that Marsha puts into her work. Her passion is right there. page after page of custom designs and patterns ALL from vintage handkerchiefs. Plus a touch of Marsharsquo;s own inspirational quotes. making it witty and fun.Irsquo;ve shown this book to many of our budding little sewers at Sew Sista. Always to shrieks of delight and wonder. Always to ldquo;oohs ahhsrdquo; and ldquo;I want to make that onerdquo;. Apart from being a source of inspiration (and a damn fine coffee table book). Hankie Couture includes some practical instruction and patterns to challenge you to make your own.If you love looking at beautiful things people have made. Then you will love this.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Would rather have the paper printed editionBy Vicki McKieThe book itself is fine. It has a lot of inspiring ideas of how to change hankies into beautiful outfits for Barbie and her friends. I bought the digital Kindle version of the book. The problem is that the patterns dont print out to the correct size that they are supposed to be. or wont print out at all. It is a pretty book to look at. I just wish the patterns were functional. I would welcome a remedy if anyone has one.Thank you.Update: Nov 7. 2014My last review was written in April 2014. Since I wrote the first review. the author contacted me and was willing to mail me the full size copy of the patterns which are in the book. That was very good of her to make good on this product. I would still recommend looking on for the printed version of this book instead of the Kindle version simply because the patterns are not usable from the Kindle book. However her original patterns and dress projects are very lovely. and she gives clear instructions for making them. So I am going to upgrade my review from two stars to four stars. I would have given it five stars except for this issue with the Kindle patterns not being usable. Buy the printed book. Youll love it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. LOVED IT for the unique. inspirational use for heritage hankies--as well as for the charm of hankie-and-fashion fusion!By BirdyI love everything old and nostalgicmdash;especially the charm and beauty of a vintage hankie! Hankies remind us of a time when femininity and attention to detail were a basic part of our lives. Hankies also personally bring back a lot of dear and nostalgic memories of special times with my Mom. I believe they must have touched my Momrsquo;s heart the same way as she kept all of her motherrsquo;s and her grandmotherrsquo;s hankies in a special drawer. and would pass them on to family members as a remembrance. But. hankies hidden away in a drawer are such a shame! Thatrsquo;s why I was so excited to find Miss Greenbergrsquo;s fabulous book of Hankie Couture!Whether you want a special way to display or gift a heritage hankie. or just love the charm of the hankie-and-fashion fusion. this book is fabulous! Greenbergrsquo;s designs are Paris Chic and the book itself is a work of art. The drawings and art designs are so pretty. Whether you actually get out your sewing needle (the instructions are thorough and easy to follow) matters not as the artful journey through her book will inspire your creativity and warm your heart with nostalgic memories. I bought two copies--one to keep and treasure and one to gift.
