A legend on both the clarinet and the soprano saxophone; one of the most brilliant exponents of New Orleans jazz; Sidney Bechet (1897ndash;1959) played with such fellow jazz legends as Louis Armstrong; Duke Ellington; Charlie Parker; and Jelly Roll Morton. Here is his vivid story written in his own words. Expressive; frank; and hilarious; this classic in jazz literature re-creates a man; a music; and an era.

Great starting pointBy CJThis book provides an excellent an inexpensive overview of this era of racing; although I was hoping for a lot more technical discussion of the hydroplanes themselves; which is does not provide much of. Still; its worth having for dedicated fans and Ill probably eventually pick up some of his other books as well. When I was a kid in the 80s; unlimited hydroplane racing had a lot more mainstream popularity than it seems to now; so it was great to take a stroll down Memory Lane while reading this. Lots of discussion of the lives of the players and the tensions and rivalries between the teams and within the teams; as well as seeing some fairly rare pictures; although many are black and white.Im still searching for a large high quality coffee table book on this subject with lots of color photos and technical discussion. Im sure such a book wont be cheap; but its on my list...0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book!By M. WeberAnother great book by David Williams on Unlimited Hydroplane racing.
