This epic cultural and historical odyssey unearths the full influence of occult traditions on rock and roll -- from the Beatles to Black Sabbath -- and shows how the marriage between mysticism and music changed our world. From the hoodoo-inspired sounds of Elvis Presley to the Eastern odysseys of George Harrison; from the dark dalliances of Led Zeppelin to the Masonic imagery of todayrsquo;s hip-hop scene; the occult has long breathed life into rock and hip-hopmdash;and; indeed; esoteric and supernatural traditions are a key ingredient behind the emergence and development of rock and roll. With vivid storytelling and laser-sharp analysis; writer and critic Peter Bebergal illuminates this web of influences to produce the definitive work on how the occult shaped -- and saved -- popular music. As Bebergal explains; occult and mystical ideals gave rock and roll its heart and purpose; making rock into more than just backbeat music; but into a cultural revolution of political; spiritual; sexual; and social liberation.

Great Book from a Great Pastel Artist.By Sandy Askey-AdamsI love Elizabeth Mowrys work. I do have (I think) all of her books and just received this one. BUT; I gave it only a 4 because it is a repeat of techniques and tips from some of her other books. Despite the publisher compiling all that has been published before; there is a tiny bit that I had not seen before. Is it worth purchasing? You bet it is!It probably does deserve a rating of a 5 because of the way it is put together. IF you do not have any of her other books; this is a MUST BUY book to have. Heck; even you already have her other books; I would still purchase it (as I did). It is a beautiful book that teaches much about pastels and shows her outstanding pastel work.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. The writing is well done and easy to followBy Elaine C. LynestAs an artist who has been working with pastels for awhile; this book opens up possibilities with the medium not considered before. The writing is well done and easy to follow. Photography is excellent. I have recommended this book to my students.
