Durch die; seit der Atomreaktorkatastrophe in Japan fokussiert auf erneuerbare Energien ausgelegte; Energiepolitik wird der Ausbau der Windkraft zusauml;tzlich gefouml;rdert. Bis 2025; so der Plan der Bundesregierung; soll der Anteil der Windkraft; bezogen auf den heutigen Stromverbrauch; auf 25% ansteigen (vgl. BMU 2012). Windkraftanlagen setzen die kinetische Energie des Windes in elektrische Energie um. Dadurch wird eine CO2-neutrale Energieproduktion ermouml;glicht. Die Ausschouml;pfung der erneuerbaren Ressource Wind louml;st ehemalige Abhauml;ngigkeiten von instabilen Rohstofflieferanten und ermouml;glicht auch rohstoffarmen Lauml;ndern eine autarke Energieproduktion. Windkraft ist heute der Energietrauml;ger unter den erneuerbaren Energien; dem das grouml;szlig;te Entwicklungspotential zugeschrieben wird. Dies bedeutet neben einer umweltschonenden Energieproduktion jedoch einen auch erheblichen Eingriff in das Landschaftsbild. Die raum-zeitlichen Auswirkungen der Windkraft in der Landschaft sind ein in der Geographie bislang nur wenig behandeltes Thema. An diesem Punkt setzt diese Arbeit an. Ziel ist es; einen mouml;glichst umfassenden Einblick in die Thematik Windkraft und Landschaftsauml;sthetik zu gewauml;hren. Die Notwendigkeit; einen Wandel der Energieproduktionsmethoden zu vollziehen; wurde in der Wissenschaft bislang ausgiebig diskutiert und kann damit als hinreichend bekannt vorausgesetzt werden. Deswegen wird dies in der hier vorliegenden Arbeit nicht weiter angesprochen. So besteht die Aufgabenstellung zunauml;chst darin; die Grundlagen der Thematik Windkraft und Landschaftsauml;sthetik darzustellen. Dazu wird zunauml;chst ein Einblick in den Bereich der auml;sthetischen Landschaftswahrnehmung gewauml;hrt und anschlieszlig;end diese mit der Anlage von Windkraftanlagen in der Landschaft verknuuml;pft. Ein weiterer Aspekt hierbei ist die Wahrnehmung der Windkraftanlagen aus der psychologischen Perspektive. Die gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen sowie die Ursachen des Konflikts zwischen Landschaftsauml;sthetik und Windkraftanlagen werden nauml;her beleuchtet. Zuletzt werden noch als Mouml;glichkeiten zur Minimierung des Konflikts Ansauml;tze der Landschaftsarchitektur zur Integration von Windkraftanlagen und Analysen mit geographischen Informationssystemen vorgestellt.

Native American history. or anyone just interested in good non-fiction.By DanielThis review originally published in [...] Rated 4.25 of 5Im not sure when I first saw a petroglyph. but over the last twenty years or so. my wife and I have done a great deal of traveling to state and national parks and at so many of them weve noted and photographed petroglyphs.I am fascinated by visual arts in general. and when I see these petroglyphs or other rock art I am amazed by the tenacity of artists who worked with poor materials. but werent stopped by that. The drive to produce art often supersedes the lack of materials.This books details some rock art in the upper Midwest. primarily in the Wisconsin area. Eleven locations are explored and described. Some of these are open to the public. such as Jeffers and Pipestone in Minnesota. Others are locations on private property.For those of us who might pick up this book to find locations to visit. this can be a little disappointing as too many of the locations are private. Also disappointing - and the authors almost hit the reader over the head with their concern - is how many of the petroglyphs have been damaged or destroyed by uncaring visitors. Since most of these petroglyphs are located in limestone caves on farm lands. it is implied (or stated outright. I dont remember which) that teens looking to party are the likely suspects in the damage. It is disappointing that such historical artifacts are so wantonly destroyed (and the authors make it clear how they feel about this). but kudos to the authors and the Native American councils who are actively working to protect these places.The book is lavishly illustrated with photos and artwork (more on that in a moment) of many of the discoveries. My ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) came with a publishers watermark on every page. making it near impossible to actually see anything in the photos. so its difficult to comment on the quality of the pictures.One of the things that I enjoyed about this book is that it wasnt just a flat-out presentation of petroglyph sites. In addition to the photos. the book has many watercolor paintings by artist Geri Schrab. Schrab is clearly moved by the ancient art and works the styles and themes into her own watercolors. It is beautiful synthesis of ancient and modern art.Also included in the book are "Native Voice" writings.
