Review
8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Poor Quality and InaccurateBy ccondesaThis is one of the saddest examples of an art history book I have ever seen. Stephen Beissel is described as an eminent authority on Fra Angelico yet he dates the artists birth 20 years earlier than other well known art historians. He identifies Saint Peter Martyr; an easily identifiable figure; as Saint Dominic. One of Fra Angelicos late altarpieces is said to be an early work. Fra Angelico is known for his innovative use of pure; clear color. He shades with different hues of the same color instead of using chiaroscuro but in this book the colors are muddy and faded. The picture quality is spotty at best. Dont waste your time or money on this poor quality book. My suggestion is that you consider the definitive works by William Hood-Fra Angelico at San MarcoFra Angelico at San Marco (The Great Fresco Cycles of the Renaissance)] or Fra Angelico: San Marco; Florence Fra Angelico: San Marco; Florence. Diane Cole Ahis book Fra Angelico Fra Angelico is newer and the picture quality is good.
