The photos are exquisite; While the book is perhaps geared towards children; Tippi was 15 when it was first published so its not a cute-sy; talking down to kids; book of wild animals. Its a very interesting read for adults as well. She talks about racism; hunting; being able to talk to animals and what the life of a wild animal is really like. Its not graphic; but its honest. She talks about the tribes they lived with and their mysticism. My 8 year old niece is obsessed with animals; all animals. I think shed rather be a cat than a human. haha Some themes in this book will probably go over head but they arent inappropriate. Actually shell probably just stare at the photos then build a Minecraft sanctuary for all the wild animals. lol Shes going to FLIP when she opens this book at Christmas.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. By far my favorite book in agesBy Kelly PepperThis book is so amazing! I saw a link to an article about this girls childhood on Facebook; and decided to check it out. Her story is so beautiful and I cant even imagine having such a wonderful; fulfilling childhood. I thought the book was just going to be a childs picture book; but it was so much more. It had gorgeous photos of amazing wildlife and scenery; but also the most wonderful stories to accompany them. I absolutely dont regret the purchase; and if yourre on the fence about it; just go for it; you wont be sorry. Its something youll enjoy reading in its entirety; then just perusing the photos from time to time.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Exquisite Photography and an Intriguing Story!By JohnnygeeI downloaded the Kindle version of this book based on a series of powerful images I received by e-mail. The book adds words to the images in the voice of young Tippi Degree; daughter of professional wildlife photographers. Tippi was born in Nambia and due to a lack of playmates of the human sort; made friends with the wildlife that lived around her including a 5-ton elephant she called "brother." I downloaded the book to my Kindle Fire HDX tablet. I was concerned that the images might be too small on my Kindle or possibly lack the resolution that I saw in the e-mail. I need not have worried. Each image is crystal clear and sharp even should I choose the expand them on my screen. The book itself is fascinating and includes many images of Tippi as she grows up in Africa and interacts with her playmates who live in the jungle just beyond her own backyard! This one is a keeper!
