How to Play Djembe: West African Rhythms for Beginners

[ebooks] How to Play Djembe: West African Rhythms for Beginners by Alan Dworsky in Arts-Photography

Description

Dantes Divine Comedy captivated medieval readers; and each successive era remains spellbound by its sublime portraits of Hell; Purgatory; and Heaven. In the early 19th century; one of Englands great epic poets paid tribute to the Italian masters work. Gifted at both poetry and painting; William Blake transformed more than a hundred of Dantes visions into sketches; engravings; and brilliant watercolors. This collection features all of his distinctive interpretations of Dantes immortal trilogy.Although Blake labored in poverty and obscurity all his life; he is recognized today as one of the preeminent artists and poets of the English-speaking world. An 1825 commission from patron John Linnell enabled him to focus on illustrating Dantes tales mdash; the type of visionary work to which his talents were ideally suited. The artist spent the last three years of his life creating these images; which range from completely finished pieces to rough sketches. Blakes highly original approach offers not only an excellent introduction to Dantes allegorical tales; but also a new and fresh perspective for those already familiar with the Divine Comedy.

Getting startedBy Charles MurrayThis is a good book/CD for beginners and intermediate hand drummers. Dworsky Sansby do well at the impossible task of turning writing into rhythm. but the CD really teaches the groove. You will probably still need a live teacher to show the difference between a slap and a tone. but the book gives several good lessons you can review over and over.It will definitely give you something to play at you local drum circles.Chuck Murray8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. DisappointingBy BarbwiredI bought this book and CD and also the DVD Gentle Djembe for beginners. I didnt like the book and CD. The instruction in the book is good but the CD is only useful if you can separate the left and right sounds to hear each part of a rhythm. It is designed for using the CD on a stereo player that can control each part independently. Neither my CD/DVD player. or an iPod has this capability. It would have been more useful if the author had played each part separately so that you could hear them individually. i dont think I would recommend this book/cd to anyone.
