(Limelight). The Nashville Chronicles is a fascinating journalistic tour de force of the movie that legendary film critic Pauline Kael called "The funniest epic vision of America ever to reach the screen." In writing this book; Jan Stuart enjoyed the benefit of full cooperation from Altman; who sat for many hours of interviews; as well as most of the motley crew of cast and characters. And I had been hoping that the book would shed more in-depth light upon Lefty AFTER he made it big in Country Music. But instead the book spent most of its pages on family background and Leftys life growing up before he reached music stardom. I liked the biography of Lefty by Dan Cooper a lot better.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A nice memoirBy Steve DosseyThis a focused book told by Leftys brother that brings us close to the man and illuminates his formative years. his hard scrabble life. his hard fought struggle to succeed. The book also includes others recollections and paints a portrait of the artist. his success. his failures. It is a memoir. not a thorough biography. nor is it intended to be. Its interesting enough that I would like to see a comprehensive well researched book covering the life of Lefty. his art and his impact on country music. To be fair it does list his chart successes and the musicians that played at his sessions. Its worth reading if you appreciate Lefty Frizzells music.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Real CountryBy Mari B.How fortunate we are to have the true history of one of the greats in country music. Lefty Frizzell. David Frizzell. the youngest brother. takes us on the journey of his family. You feel the love. pain. joy and creative poetry of Lefty. One writes about what they know best. This book is part of the Nashville story and so many images of "real country"A very enjoyable book.
