David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson are two of Americarsquo;s preeminent film scholars. You would be hard pressed to find a serious student of the cinema who hasnrsquo;t spent at least a few hours huddled with their seminal introduction to the fieldmdash;Film Art; now in its ninth editionmdash;or a cable television junkie unaware that the Independent Film Channel sagely christened them the ldquo;Critics of the Naughts.rdquo; Since launching their blog Observations on Film Art in 2006; the two have added web virtuosos to their growing list of accolades; pitching unconventional long-form pieces engaged with film artistry that have helped to redefine cinematic storytelling for a new age and audience.Minding Movies presents a selection from over three hundred essays on genre movies; art films; animation; and the business of Hollywood that have graced Bordwell and Thompsonrsquo;s blog. Informal pieces; conversational in tone but grounded in three decades of authoritative research; the essays gathered here range from in-depth analyses of individual films such as Slumdog Millionaire and Inglourious Basterds to adjustments of Hollywood media claims and forays into cinematic humor. For Bordwell and Thompson; the most fruitful place to begin is how movies are made; how they work; and how they work on us. Written for film lovers; these essaysmdash;on topics ranging from Borat to blockbusters and back againmdash;will delight current fans and gain new enthusiasts.Serious but not solemn; vibrantly informative without condescension; and above all illuminating reading; Minding Movies offers ideas sure to set film lovers thinkingmdash;and keep them returning to the silver screen.

A very entertaining read !!By James McquarrieI was in one of the bands that was lucky enough to play several shows with D.O.A back in the early 1980s. and I can honestly say that I have never seen another band before or to this day with as much energy and raw talent as them. They are the gold standard of what a Rock n Roll band should be. I am still a big fan and still listen to their music. Thanks for sharing Joe.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. greatBy Sean Smithgreat4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Essential punk rock historyBy David E. HintzI will start by claiming 100% bias as Ive known the author for well over 20 years and have greatly enjoyed his contributions to punk rock for over 25 years. DOA taught a lot of us how to go out and get it done. with "it" being spreading the music and message to the less than masses spread out among the world. Joes book is simple. straightforward blast of history that will interest anyone into the punk rock way of existence. Essential reading. so get it and enjoy!
