I Wrote This For You

[audiobook] I Wrote This For You by Iain Thomas; Jon Ellis at Arts-Photography

Description

African Art invites you to explore the dynamic origins of the vast artistic expressions arising from the exotic and mystifying African continent.Since the discovery of African art at the end of the nineteenth century during the colonial expositions it has been a limitless source of inspiration for artists who; over time; have perpetually recreated these artworks. The power of Sub-Saharan African art lies within its visual diversity; demonstrating the creativity of the artists who are continuing to conceptualize new stylistic forms. From Mauritania to South Africa and from the Ivory Coast to Somalia; statues; masks; jewelry; pottery and tapestries compose a variety of daily and ritual objects springing from these richly varied societies.

I bookmarked passages that I loved with torn up tissue papers because I couldnt stand to leave his side. We took breaks from the heartfelt. 20 page letter his daughter (my aunt) had sent him to beg him to hold on. She is in prison in another state. and she couldnt see her father in his last days. She wrote about forgiveness. on God and love and compassion. and on my grandfathers strength and love for us all. On our love for him back.He never responded. but I know he heard me read him this. I know he heard her talking to him on the phone. I know he heard me whisper in his ear. late and night and long after everyone else had fallen asleep. "Youre okay. Thank you. Im sorry. Youve been so brave. Your sister is coming. Soon you wont have to hold on any more. Im so sorry. I love you. I promise to take care of everyone. I promise everyone is going to be okay. Please hold on a little longer. I love you..."When they finally took off all the tubes. he didnt stir much as his blood pressure slowly but steadily dropped. He didnt open his eyes. but... I know he heard his family. all crowding around to show how much they love him.I know he heard us singing "Swing Low. Sweet Chariot" as his heart rate slowed.I read this book again on the plane ride home. I cant count how many times Ive read it since.... If you didnt like the book. its because youre not the one he wrote it for. Give it to someone that looks like they might be.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ConfusingBy AlexandreaI cant tell if its written to be interpreted differently by every reader or if it was written for the authors former lover or something. Very confusing but well written book.
