Idols and Celebrity in Japanese Media Culture

[ebooks] Idols and Celebrity in Japanese Media Culture by Patrick W. Galbraith; Jason G. Karlin in Arts-Photography

Description

The holidaysmdash;that time between Thanksgiving and New Yearsmdash;jam more "together" time together than any other time during the year. And all that being together calls for movies to watch together to celebrate the season or movies to watch alone to survive the season. From such classics to enjoy as a family like A Christmas Story; Its a Wonderful Life; and Planes; Trains; and Automobiles to more offbeat films like Home for the Holidays (the Thanksgiving family reunion from hell) and Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (an R-rated Santa Claus origin story crossed with The Thing); Roger Eberts full-length reviews suggest a wide range of titles sure to please everyone on your list. Also included are thoughtful films like John Hustons rendering of James Joyces The Dead; a poignant look at life and Joyeux Noel; based on the true story of a spontaneous cease-fire between German and Allied troops on Christmas Eve 1914. As a bonus; in the enhanced version; more than half of the reviews include a clip of the movies trailer.

There is no other book on the English market that discusses idols like this one does. The book first appealed to me because of the cover. Once I saw it I knew exactly where it came from. and that is Maeda Atsuko took home the crown for #1 in the general election for AKB48. The description of the book was exactly what I needed for my project that I am working on in one of my classes. Writing a project about idols if fun but attempting to find books written about them is very difficult. The description on the page. coupled with the information from the back cover gave an excellent summary of what I was about to read. This book had everything to male jpop idols to female jpop idols so in that aspect alone it was commendable since with this knowledge we get to see even more about what is different in the Media. My only comment would be that since the idol boom exploded not too long ago it would be nice to get some things updated. or even do a second edition. I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about idols. and I believe that eve hardcore fans will enjoy this.
