Description

Its a nice tome for armchair travel; whisking you off around the country from where you sitmdash;or time travel; taking you back to that life-changing decade-lost holiday and old friends.mdash; The Japan TimesVisit the most compelling cultural and nature sites in all of Japan with this beautifully photographed travel guide. In Japans World Heritage Sites; readers are introduced to the temples; gardens; castles and natural wonders for which Japan is so justly renownedmdash;all of those now declared to be Unesco World Heritage Sites. Author John Dougill describes each site in detail; stating why they were singled out by Unesco; the current number and types of sites; the application process; how the sites have been selected; and how difficult it is to be given the special status of a World Heritage Site.Dougill traveled to all of the sites in Japan to research this book. Because the Japanese archipelago extends from Siberia all the way down to Taiwan; Dougill describes how his journey led him from the sub-Arctic to the sub-tropical zones. These are without a doubt the most interesting sites that Japan has to offer; including the following: Mount Fuji; Japans tallest and most sacred volcano. Located on Honshu Island near Tokyo; Mt. Fuji is considered the sacred symbol of Japan Himeji Castle; a monument from Japans long feudal history. Also known as Egret Castle; because it looks like a bird taking off in flight. Horyu-ji Temple; the worlds oldest surviving wooden structuremdash;a center of Buddhist learning that still serves as a seminary and monastery Hiroshima Peace Memorial or Atomic-Bomb Domemdash;one of the few structures to partially survive the atomic blast in 1945 The Ogasawara Islands; a remote archipelago of over 30 islandsmdash;including Iwo Jimamdash;that is home to rare wildlife and spectacular scenery Readers will learn how Japan first became involved with the World Heritage Sites program back in 1993; the importance of these designations; and their popularity in Japan; where they are visited by millions of people annually; both Japanese and foreigners.

This book was amazing all the way from page one to the end! You have Dontae a small time hustler who goes to prison for five years over a little crack; then you have Naija his girl who is trying to be faithful but having a hard time under Dontaes strict rules and powerful reign over her from prison. Naija finally is feed up with Dontae and moves to the most powerful drug dealer in town. After Dontaes release from prison he wants to get back with Naija but she has changed into this money hungry woman and avoids seeing him or talking to him. When Dontae meets a new cutie by the name of QTee he soon forgets about Naija and decides to move on with the new love of his life. When Dontae and QTee finally getting on with their new relationship the show up at a get together for QTees brother Tony who happens to be Naijas new man and thats when it hits the fan. This book was great not a dull moment you wont be able to put it down!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I just wanna cry!By Rhonda ThomasI love a story with a happy ending and I was hopeful until the end. Because of that; I couldnt give this book 5 stars even though it really deserved it! (lol) It didnt end the way I would like for it to have ended. It was certainly real! This book has several lessons to learn. 1. Whats done in the dark; will come to light. 2. What goes up must and will come down. 3. Definitely; dont mix the bitter with the sweet. Dontae was my favorite character and my heart bleeds for him and black men trying to do the best they can with the choices that they make and with the hand that life has dealt them. Wow! Im looking forward to the sequel and hopefully; I will get my happy ending. This was the first book that I have read by this author and it wont be the last. It was a very well written story with real life stories and consequences. Good job and keep up the good work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. For the love of Money!By L. RomichDont Mix The Bitter With The Sweet is the story of Naija and Dontae. The beginning of the story you find Naija being the good faithful girlfriend; doing the first year of Dontaes bid like a true down a$$ chick; but when Jasmine; Naijas best friend convinces her to go out one night she meets Tony. Tony is getting money and before you know if 3yrs go by and Naija and Tony are in a long term relationship and Dontae is released from jail. This is where things get really complicated; cause everyone ties into this story more ways than one and when everything comes to a head; you really wonder what people wont do for the love of money. This story moves along at a fast pace and I am about to pick the sequel "Playin for Keeps" this weekend so I can find out what is gonna happen next with these characters. My final rating would be 4.5 stars!
