Interfacing with the Internet in Popular Cinema

[ebooks] Interfacing with the Internet in Popular Cinema by A. Tucker at Arts-Photography

Description

If the burlesque stripper; with her bawdy spirit and unruly insubordination; has emerged for many as a new empowering model for the sexually aware woman; then she also strikes horror in the heart of second wave feminism. Embodied by high profile artistes such as Dita von Teese and Catherine drsquo;Lish; the explosive revival of striptease; burlesque and overt female sexual performance has proved no less alluring to a new generation of women artists familiar with the provocative work of 70rsquo;s performance artists such as Hannah Wilke and Carolee Schneeman. Eloquent on lsquo;prettinessrsquo; and power; desire and lsquo;knowingnessrsquo;; money; sex and class; and with an extensive knowledge of burlesquersquo;s rich tradition; Willson raises long overdue questions about womenrsquo;s erotic expression within a lsquo;postfeministrsquo; condition. The lsquo;new burlesquersquo; demands above all a response - this fresh; brazen; provocative book at last provides it.

In addition; it tells a wonderful story about a painting that was passed down through generations for over 400 years in one family and of the current owners desire to prove that it was a painting of Shakespeare. That famous name had once been written on the back. He faced a terrific struggle: One that shows the workings of the art world and the experts. If you like Shakespeare and you know the usual image presented of him; this is like reading a great mystery with many twists and turns. However; whether you like Shakespeares plays or not; this book is a fascinating read. Imagine that you have a painting and you want to know more about it. Reading this book will give you some insights into how you can find the answers. It takes us into the world of investigative journalism; art historical scholarship; and an historical detectives story in which the evidence is 400 years old.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Jeffrey Deaver Meets William Shakespeare!By CustomerAs a Shakespeare fanatic of many years; I adored this mystery and Alexander Leggatts affectionate; down to earth essay. This is a fascinating and enjoyable read. The genealogical study for the provenance of the picture is helpful for anyone like me researching their ancestors in England.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
