Frederick has stood as the gateway to western Maryland since the 1740s; when German and English settlers moved into the area seeking fertile farmland. I was hoping it would be interesting and not too dull. but it is fascinating and I am enjoying it far more than I expected! The detail is great. it is very readable. more story-like than just facts and figures which is more what I was expecting. I would highly recommend this book to those interested not only in Italians. but in Chicago history in general.
