LOrlando furioso egrave; un poema cavalleresco di Ludovico Ariosto pubblicato nella sua edizione definitiva nel 1532. Il poema; composto da 46 canti in ottave (38.736 versi in totale); ruota attorno al personaggio di Orlando; a cui egrave; dedicato il titolo; e a numerosi altri personaggi. Lopera; riprendendo la tradizione del ciclo carolingio e in parte del ciclo bretone; si pone a continuazione dellincompiuto Orlando innamorato di Matteo Maria Boiardo. Caratteristica fondamentale dellopera egrave; il continuo intrecciarsi delle vicende dei diversi personaggi che vanno a costituire molteplici fili narrativi (secondo la tecnica dellentrelacement; ereditagrave; del romanzo medievale); tutti armonicamente tessuti insieme. La trama egrave; convenzionalmente riassunta intorno a tre vicende principali; emblemi anche del sovrapporsi nel poema di diversi generi letterari: in primis la linea epica della guerra tra musulmani e cristiani che fa da sfondo allintera narrazione e si conclude con la vittoria cristiana in seguito allo scontro tra gli eroi avversari. La vicenda amorosa si incentra invece sulla bellissima Angelica; in fuga da numerosi spasimanti; tra i quali il paladino Orlando; di cui viene sin dalle prime ottave preannunciata la pazzia; portando allestremo la dimensione del cavaliere cristiano della Chanson de geste votato alla fede. Le inchieste dei vari cavalieri per conquistare Angelica si rivelano tutte vane; dal momento che (prima di uscire definitivamente dal poema nel XXIX canto; per giunta a testa in giugrave; sulla sabbia) la donna sposeragrave; il musulmano Medoro causando la follia di Orlando e lira degli altri cavalieri. Il terzo motivo; quello encomiastico o celebrativo (su cui tuttavia persistono allinterno del poema una serie di ombre); consiste nelle peripezie che portano alla realizzazione dellamore tra Ruggero; cavaliere pagano erede del troiano Ettore; e Bradamante; guerriera cristiana; che riusciranno a congiungersi solo dopo la conversione di Ruggero al termine della guerra: da questa unione discenderagrave; infatti la Casa dEste.

A great way to introduce detailingBy OLD VT LAR PROFBeginning and Beginning-Intermediate landscape architecture students seem to suffer (in varying degrees) in three areas. They often tend to see design as putting things in space rather than understanding basic principles of order; form and potential meaning. In addition; many of them have never built anything - and specifically not anything in the landscape. And; of course; they have a shallow well of experience in the designed landscape to draw from when in-forming their own work. Thus; there is a tendency for young designers to fixate on a superficial and objective image of a thing. Showering students with a barrage of good examples has some benefit in deepening the well. But; without also supply frameworks for examining and evaluating what they see; many students will remain stuck in the world of Taco Bell architecture.This book describes basic principles that must be considered in the creation of landscape construction details. These principles are illustrated with clear and simple hand drawn details (unfortunately a dying art.) The clear presentation of process and principles coupled with illustrations that place the emphasis on issues rather than on things make this a solid introductory text. I can foresee using this text as a basis for teaching students to critique canned details. Or; as a way of exploring why certain things look exactly like they do.If you are looking for reference material (e.g. detailed calculations of retaining walls; or strength charts for treated lumber) look elsewhere. Do the same if you want color photos of products from the ASLA Expo. If you are interested in how to think about designing details; start here for a direct and unencumbered introduction.
