We enjoyed the book and I recommend. For centuries; stone has been used by nearly all civilizations. Each corner of the world and each layer of earth yields a multitude of stone varieties; and a uniqueness within each stone.Stone is a natural solid formation of one or many minerals. There are thousands of types of stone that have been quarried through the centuries. Quarries are located all around the world. A majority of natural stone comes from Italy; Spain; Turkey; United States; Mexico; China; Taiwan; India; Greece; Canada; France; and Brazil. The minerals in stone came from the same liquid and gas minerals that formed the earth. The Earth developed as a massive body of gas and liquid minerals that slowly cooled and condensed to a solid core. Through pressure; the Earths crust began to form and heavy minerals were forced down to the core of the Earth where they were trapped. As the crust got thicker; it squeezed around the inner core which created intense pressure and heat from within the Earth. Crystals and other solid forms began to grow from the mineral vapors that were being released. As the Earths crust began to expand and erode; heat and pressure pushed the solid minerals up to the Earths surface which formed colossal rock beds. It took up to one-hundred million years to form some of these beds. Many of the beds are now used as quarries where the stone is mined.I received this item discounted in exchange for my testing; inspecting and reviewing it. ROMEROThis book ldquo;Rocks and Minerals of the Worldrdquo; belongs to a Childrenrsquo;s book series published by Speedy Publishing. We love Speedy Publishing Childrenrsquo;s book series as they usually come with excellent photos and basic references that are quite suitable for the underage; for those small family members at home; for those parents who love to teach their children at home and this type of books serve well for teaching purposes at school too. This book refers to rocks and minerals on which it is established that all rocks are made of two or more minerals; but minerals are not made of rock.Beautiful photographs and short references about the Granite (igneous rock); Limestone (sedimentary rock); Marble (metamorphic rock); Aluminum; Gold; Silver; Diamond and many more fun facts that are well depicted on this book with high definition photographs in full color. As this book has beautiful; full colored; high detailed; photographs/pictures you may want to share with your kids and/or students as they can serve as point for further discussions or a way to develop language skill by promoting the children to express themselves about what they see and understand by looking at the photograph or picture.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very basic ebook offered for free...cant go wrong for the price...By ElizabethThere are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book. This Rocks and Minerals of the World book is another basic ebook. I wouldve liked if the book went into detail describing what sedimentary; ignious and metamorphic rocks are. Overall; I do like theses books but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free for my honest review. *****
