It turns out to be a separate copy of a part of his monumental History of Western Music. If you do not have the whole 5 volumes of the History; then you will enjoy this book; but if you already have the History; then this is just a partial copy. My suggestion to the publishers is that this should have been made clearer to the public. After all; if it had been a new work of Taruskin.....
