Judy Garland on Judy Garland: Interviews and Encounters (Musicians in Their Own Words)

[audiobook] Judy Garland on Judy Garland: Interviews and Encounters (Musicians in Their Own Words) by Randy L. Schmidt in Arts-Photography

Description

Seattles first radio broadcast aired in 1919; and over the next 90 years; the city drew national attention for its collection of flamboyant and sometimes quirky broadcast impresarios and performers. The parade of people that passed in front of and behind the Puget Sound microphones included a big-time bootlegger and his wife; two embezzling bank managers; a political campaign manager; and a lumber mill barons daughter. Two local radio men started with practically nothing and built their own successful Northwest station groups. An underpaid novice Seattle radio announcer went on to become the dean of the countrys television newscasters. A 1950s disc jockey used acrobatic publicity stunts to draw an audience for his station. A guitar-strumming radio singer capitalized on his fame to build a chain of restaurants. And the founder of a Seattle "free form" FM radio station went on to build a network of community FM stations around the country; making him "The Johnny Appleseed of Community Radio."

A Very Special and Must Have Book For Anyone Interested in MJBy CustomerThis is a wonderful book full of pictures and detailed information about Michaels life organized by each year of his life and by specific months and dates in his life. For example; on July 13; 1988 Michael visited sick children at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and three days later on the 16th he performed a sell-out concert at Wembley stadium which Prince Charles and Princess Diana attended. This book has a lot of other information about Michaels concerts; his album releases; his charitable acts; the important events/award shows he attended; major milestones in his life; and a lot more. Whats really special about this book is all the rare; specific details that it gives about Michaels life like that he and his company; MJJ Productions; provided over 200 turkey dinners for families in Los Angeles at the end of 1991. The book even lists all the important magazine covers that Michael appeared on in his life by year and month and it very helpfully even tracks the sales progress of Michaels albums and singles by date (did you know that the album "Thriller" sold 700;000 extra copies following Michaels Pepsi commercial burn accident back in January 1984?). All the important parts of Michaels life are covered in this book starting from his birth; the Jackson 5 years; the 80s; the 90s; and so on. I really love the timeline/encyclopedia-like format of this book. Nice; quality pictures are spread throughout the book along with occasional quotes from Michael on the side and even his tour dates; album song listings; and other little goodies are included throughout. The book was updated this year to include information about his passing.Adrian Grant; the writer or compiler of this book; was a good friend of Michael Jackson and his admiration; respect; and love of Michael Jackson absolutely shows up in this very thorough and well put together book.To me; this is a must have book for people who want to know more about Michael Jackson and his incredible musical accomplishments as well as his equally impressive and neverending charitable contributions to the world. If you really want to know more about Michael Jackson the man (not the one the tabloids have created); this is a great place to start. I highly recommended this book for all collectors and fans of Michael Jackson (there is something here in this book for everyone). This is definitely one of the most important and valuable items that I own in my MJ collection and I dont think that any MJ fan should be without it.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A manual on MJ`s lifeBy MJ100%fanI have not read the entire book yet; but I have found it incredibly helpful. I do hope that all that is therein is true. I also am comparing it with Michaels Randy Taraborelly biography and sometimes they dont match. Sometimes I think that Randy makes some remarks that are only guesses and at the end Randy is not very nice to MJ.This book is awesome because you can follow Michaels doings and happenings step by step in each and every year.Another thing about the author. He really is MJ`s friend and the book is a real tribute to him because he enphasizes the real and good things and he does not spend time mentioning the dirt and unkind tabloid news which Michael so hated and he also do not call MJ by the name he so did not like; which I am not mentioning here. This book is a real manual on MJs entire life.I love MJ so much but unfortunately I got to know him only after his death. I have been studying his life and career every day since his death. I have to do this because I wasnt aware of him during his lifetime so now I have to catch up and am finding each day amazing things about this man. I sometimes just cant hold myself and I am an old Brazilian lady!!!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very Enjoyable for a Michael Jackson FanBy T.Im cautious about purchasing books about Michael Jackson; as I dont want to support anything that is out to spread lies or rumors. I looked at this book for a while before buying it and Im so glad I decided to go for it! I loved all of the pictures of everything from MJs childhood on through to the This Is It rehearsals. The author did a good job of being fair and objective; and sharing tons of details about Michael Jacksons career. I also really appreciated the afterward written by the author. Im a fan of not only Michaels amazing singing/songwriting/dancing/drawing/videos; but also of him as a person. I believe he was a very good man; who lived wanting to please God. The afterward of this book expressed so many of my own thoughts and feelings about Michael Jackson; and it was good to read it coming from someone else; someone who knew him.
