The authors present a fairly chronological look at the town. I liked how they used local high school students to provide illustrations of early Hawaiian life. They review the main early agricultural efforts in sugar and pineapple. transitioning to the tourist trade of today. I spent time in my youth in Kauai. and remember the old pineapple cannery and fields of spiny fruit. Most of the old "mom pop" stores are gone today. but well remembered in the book. I was surprised that Kojimas. in business for almost a century. was not featured in the book. It was such a focal point of Kapaa life. The book though does a great job on presenting life through the years in a small town that has reinvented itself many times to remain a vital place for people to live and work in paradise.
