Interesting historical snapshotBy David TownsendMost of the interviews are 20 years old. so you wont get a lot of contemporary insight. but its interesting as a historical snapshot of the days when synthesizers were new and novel. One interviewee predicts that the future of sampling is in hardware samplers. because computers will never be powerful enough to do the job. Oops. The future tends to be slippery like that.Rick Wakeman talks about his cut-down touring rig: Hammond C3. Polymoog. Prophet 5. two Birotrons. two Minimoogs. a CP-30. and RMI Keyboard Computer. and a grand piano! "That was it". he says. Before. he says. he had too much gear onstage. Nowadays. a touring keyboardist is likely to carry everything he needs under one arm.If you were coming up in those days. as I was. youll enjoy some nostalgia. If you werent born yet. youll get a historical perspective thats lost in todays unquestioning adoration of everything "vintage".Recommended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great HistoryBy Michael C. TaylorThis is a great collection of some synth legends from past Keyboard magazine articles - I wish the interviews were updated with current perspectives but I found them interesting overall. A few of the subjects arent exactly "synth gods" - the Cars? Really? but overall this was a great read.
