Kurt Kren: Structural Films

[audiobook] Kurt Kren: Structural Films by From Intellect in Arts-Photography

Description

Although the paintings of Jan Vermeer continue to be celebrated; very little is known about the painter himself -- and still less about the women he painted. Who were they? What were their lives like? What thoughts; dreams; and desires might they yield up if we take the time to truly look at them?In this elegant volume Marilyn Chandler McEntyre asks these very questions; and she teases out intriguing possibilities in twenty poems arranged side by side with color reproductions of the paintings that inspired them. McEntyre has chosen eighteen of Vermeers famous women -- including The Lacemaker; The Milkmaid; Girl with a Pearl Earring; and The Girl with a Red Hat -- to wonder about.Rich with imagined detail; these poems each invite the reader to take a closer look at Vermeers portraits; to celebrate not only Vermeers artistry but also the significance of the women themselves. McEntyre thoughtfully imagines the personal lives of these women and attempts to capture what Vermeer himself saw in them -- a contemplative exercise that illuminates the presence of grace in the ordinary moments of life.A wonderful blend of art and poetry; this volume offers a unique aesthetic experience for personal reflection.

DVDS. Blu-rays. YouTube. Netflix and . Other than a few poorly pixellated videos on YouTube. where oh where does an audience find a collection of Kurt Kren shorts to watch? Well. if youre savvy enough. your search might lead you to small european publishing DVD boutique labels where something like Kurt Kren: Action Films (with only 10 vids on it) could be found for a whopping $36.00 USD. Most of the times. the listings will be out of print. So for myself and the million or so people that exist who have an interest in experimental films. Having a book on Kurt Krens structural films is a case of putting the cart before the horse. Who the hell is this book for when NOBODY has the ability to see a Kurt Kren film unless youre booking a time slot in a viewing room in a university library? Is this books sales going to rely on being part of the required reading for some film studies major class? Its a completely ridiculous waste. It would be far better for someone to take on the task of getting a collection of all of Kurt Krens films together for a mass market product - just like Criterion did with its Stan Brakhage and Jean Painleve collections as well as the easy to find collections of Maya Deran. James Broughton. Kenneth Anger and Norman McLaren. Having an easily accessible collection of Krens films to view is a far better way of exposing his legacy to a new generation of film lovers than an academic book based on films nobody has seen! I have seen products that have combined both DVDs and books - why this wasnt done here makes no sense to me. The amount of people who have both seen enough of Krens films. then in turn want to read a giant academic art book about him must be incredibly small!
