Despite his controversial reputation and international notoriety as a film-maker; no full-length study of Clouzot has ever been published in English. This book offers a significant revaluation of Clouzots achievement; situating his career in the wider context of French cinema and society; and providing detailed and clear analysis of his major films (Le Corbeau; Quai des Orfegrave;vres; Le Salaire de la peur; Les Diaboliques; Le Mystegrave;re Picasso).Clouzots films combine meticulous technical control with sardonic social commentary and the ability to engage and entertain a broad public. Although his films are characterised by an all-controlling perfectionism; allied to documentary veracity and a disturbing bleakness of vision; Clouzot is well aware that his is an art of illusion. His fondness for anatomising social pretence; the deception; violence and cruelty practised by individuals and institutions; drew him repeatedly to the thriller as a convenient and compelling model for plots and characters; but his source texts and the usual conventions of the genre receive distinctly unconventional treatment.

Some great patterns/ideas but needed more info; especially about the basics.By Aspiring Artist and DesignerI am actually a knitter; but I also make felted hits and purses. I knit them up and then felt in the washing machine. While this book shows leather works; it can easily translate over to the knitter. But; this book is NOT for the beginner and you should have a good knowledge as this book does not give you the ABCs. Though it does have lots of cool designs and not those old patterns that no one will want. I like this book so I give it 3 stars as I think they could have included a lot more info since it professes to be a "101" course.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Does not live up to the titleBy David HenryI ordered this book to use as a textbook in a college fashion accessory design class and thought it would be perfect. Lovely pictures; good examples of designer bags; the samples were all in natural canvas which made it easy to see and the first section was a good start for the anatomy of bags and different types of bags. But alas; the patterns were a disaster - no placement markings; no dimensions; missing steps and just plain wrong instructions. Obviously no proofreading or testing was done prior to publication. Extremely frustrating even for competent 3rd year fashion design students - made them question the validity of all the rest of the information in the book. A real shame; because this could have been an absolutely fantastic textbook; hope it gets corrected; reprinted and then it really would be worthy of the title "Handbag Designer 101".1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
