The reviews by several French reviewers confirmed some of my suspicions; namely that the translation was probably done by a computer ... and rather badly; even to my American ear. When the computer got "stuck"; it simply left the English word in place. This occurs frequently. Also; on occasion; the translation is simply wrong; usually by making a literal translation of an idiomatic expression. A good translation would have a more elegant and flowing quality. I agree that the translation cant have been reviewed by anyone who both understood English well; and also spoke good French.All that being said; I still find it useful to read a French translation of a book in English which I both love and know well. I KNOW what to expect next. The mis-translations; or failures to translate; are not sufficiently annoying to stop me from reading it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
