Besitzt sie als rein klangliches Medium ebenfalls die Kapazitauml;t zur auml;sthetischen Selbstreflexion?Anhand von Robert Schumanns Instrumentalwerken werden erstmals selbstreflexive musikalische Techniken monographisch untersucht. Seine Musik weist Techniken auf; mittels derer die Houml;rer das Stadium selbstvergessener Verzauberung fuuml;r die distanzierte Begutachtung der Komposition hinter sich lassen. Die vieldiskutierten fruuml;hen Klavierwerke und auch die oft vernachlauml;ssigten Kompositionen der 1840er-50er Jahre offenbaren neue Sinnschichten. Mit dem konstitutiven Zweifel am gewauml;hlten Ausdrucksmedium erweist sich Schumann als musikalischer Wegbereiter der auml;sthetischen Moderne.

Mingus book reviewBy Endre TarczyI am not a book reviewer by any means but when this book came out I got it from the library and read it up. The only other Mingus book I had read was his semi-autobiography "Beneath the underdog". Although its a great title and all it was highly confusing to follow in a timeline. Its written in a very non linear style and then when some while later I saw Santoros book I couldnt wait to read it. I found it far better of a jazz bio than some of the others Ive read. Ive read it a couple times and I would say its well researched and gave me insight into aspects of the man;musician;composer and troubled angry genius that is Charles Mingus. Through his research we are "privy" to tempestous images of Charlie Mingus. A brilliant bassist; composer; arranger; social critic; given to biting speeches and tirades from the bandstand. We meet his family and friends through interviews; and learn more of his artistry through a mind-dazzling array of talent musicians. We journey with him from a difficult childhood to a slow death to Lou Gehrigs disease; and come to know and appreciate the "real" man; remarkably talented and spiritual. Intimate!; Revealing!
