An excellent book on the life and times of Caspar David FriedrichBy Yural BayetAn excellent book that is filled with many color and black and white illustrations of Caspar David Friedrichs work and a fascinating and detailed text on the life and world of Friedrich and the country and times he lived in. The political; military and religious events of his time are discussed in relation to many of Friedrichs most famous paintings. It is not a fast read and that is a compliment because each page has so much thoughtful information on it that I find myself stopping to carefully consider what I have just read. If you really want to know about the life and work of Friedrich I recommend you buy this book.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. masterful work of art historyBy Gunning; TomExtraordinary work of scholarship and criticism; not only placing Friedrich in the context of German Romanticism; but revealing how the very structure of his paintings reveal this connection. One of the finest works of art history I have read6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Great bookBy GenisClever and rich. I love illustrations too; but the text is outstanding. This is a gem in the dry art history field.
