An exquisite book bound in genuine leatherBy Z HayesI have been collecting The Easton Press Collectors Editions for several years now and consider them to be one of the more exquisite and beautiful book collections in the market. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to gaze upon the beautiful bound books; each having that distinctive leather-bound smell; and of course; the gorgeous illustrations that accompany these editions. Aside from scouring used bookstores; I have also been lucky enough to find some of the Easton Press titles on and this Easton Press Collectors Edition of Emily Bronteuml;s "Wuthering Heights" did not disappoint. The book; purchased via a third party seller here; arrived in almost mint condition (even the bookplate sticker; which I found among the pages; had not been peeled off and placed on the inside cover by the previous owner). The gilt-edging on the cover and back is in a beautiful gold; and the book itself is bound in genuine leather and is a grayish black. Most of the Easton Press Collectors Editions come in distinctive colors; all of which are bound in genuine leather; so they not only make for handsome additions to ones personal library; but are also heirloom quality; and of course; make great gifts for bibliophiles. This book is part of the Easton Press series titled "The 100 Greatest Books Ever Written". The book contains color lithographs by Barnett Freedman and was published in 1980. There is a frontispiece portrait of Emily Bronteuml; specially commissioned for this edition. The artist is Barbara Sparks. This edition also includes:The Biographical Notice of Ellis and Acton Bell by Currer Bell (Charlotte Bronteuml;)An Editors Preface to the New Edition of Wuthering Heights (1850)A diagram depicting key players in the storyThe text of "Wuthering Heights" which is based on the Oxford edition (with the original printers errors corrected)All in all; this is a handsome leather-bound edition of one of the greatest works of English literature.5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. An immortal book for all agesBy Jo SandrockFor me; this is THE Book; Ive read it about every five years or so for the last seventy-five years (yes; thats right; but whos counting?); and now I have it on Kindle. It really has everything; romance; melodrama - and above all it has Jane herself. Here she is at ten years old:"The Rev. Mr Brocklehurst speaks to Jane: `Do you know where the wicked go after death? `They go to hell; was my ready and orthodox answer. `And what is hell? Can you tell me that? `A pit full of fire. `And should you like to fall into that pit; and to be burning there for ever? `No; sir. `What must you do to avoid it? I deliberated for a moment; my answer; when it did come; was objectionable: ` I must keep in good health; and not die."Wonderful Jane! No good outlining the plot - everybody knows about the mad wife in the attic - but its the second half which has the surprises: Jane offering to go with the missionary to India; not as his wife but as his assistant; extraordinary for that day and age. This is a really really good read for all ages; I get something new out of it every time. And a happy ending - what more can one ask?0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Must ReadBy Martin D. GibbsFor some reason; I bought the Barnes and Noble version (I also downloaded the Kindle version free); and the little notes are really quite irritating. Sometimes they are helpful; and other times I feel insulted. Is it me; or is there a preponderance of semicolons in this work? Well; more like an oversized spaceship load. Wow. But I like it... perhaps too much. Now; if I knew how to use them in a sentence; it would be impressive; a feat of composition; to be sure. So; what can I add to six million reviews?Well; if your library consists only of sparkly vampire books; bondage thrillers; "George Washington; zombie-dragon-vampire-killer; and part-time Twitter God;" then I suggest you return to classic literature and dive into an amazing world. Jane Eyre is one of many phenomenal books that will cling to your memory long after you have completed them. Now; in full disclosure; I read this; partly because I was never forced to in college; and partially because I wanted to write a piece of bizarro fiction that was centered around Ms. Eyre (one that does not involve zombies or vampires). But I found myself drawn into the novel and captivated by the storytelling. Even as a man; I found myself empathizing with Eyre; feeling the mud as it clung to my clothes in that desperate moment of dangerous hope and determined self-reliance. The characters were real; vivid; and I can hear Grace Poole even now; chuckling mirthlessly. The writing is that good; 165 years later. If you havent already; read it!
