Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition); as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits; maps; sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images; so they represent accurately the original artefact. I placed too much responsibility on this book ... disclaimer; it does not cure cancer or clear zits.By MoniI made this a mandatory reading for my teens.Even for adults - It is a page turner. But this is NOT a novel - although it reads like one.It is much more than that. While reading keep in mind at all times that the events really happened.Depending on your background this story will either shock you or will put a perspective on the things in your life you call "problems".Most will exit this book at least a little changed for the better. It is one thing to "understand" that there is a different world out there; it is a completely different thing to actually have an open window to this "out there" - it changes you. Like the difference between "if you text and drive it is gonna hurt" ... vs. staring at a mangled body or hearing the emptiness of a prison cell for the first time ...Maybe this understanding of a world so far from your comfort zone will explain the logic of events in your office; in politics or at any other crowded place of your choice.Yes; I placed too much responsibility on this book ... disclaimer; it does not cure cancer or clear zits. But if you can read between the lines and extract the essence of a message to a general concept - then you will likely enjoy this book.... and possibly add to your ability to see when you become part of the herd driven for "processing".2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. met many characters and had several pretty good friendshipsBy JTHad similar experiences traveling with Alamo Exposition Shows and Fraziers World Fair Shows in the late 60s and early 70s. Started in the Duck Pond and later worked in the Flukey Ball; Swinger; Buckets and Six Cat. Worked summers during high school and college. Got to see a lot of the West; met many characters and had several pretty good friendships. Often though about turning my time being "with it" into a novel or film. Wonder where they are now? Reading this book brought back many memories. Recommended.16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating... on so many levelsBy enubrius"Eyeing the Flash" is a fascinating coming-of-age story of a young man learning about life through the bramble bush of the Carnival midway. Equally as fascinating as the story the book tells; however; is the book itself. Consider: It purports to be a true story. But it purports to be the true story a a boy who made his mark by learning how to lie; swindle; and con gullibles marks by telling purportedly true stories. The characters in it are much too outrageous and colorful to have actually existed; But the characters are much too outrageous and colorful to have been made up. The town the story takes place in; Mineralton; Michigan; doesnt exist. But there is (or was) a Mineral Hills. The author is Peter Fenton and the main characters name is Peter Fenton; so it could really be a memoir and true. But Peter Fenton; the author; was a reporter for The National Enquirer; a publication known for; at the very least; coloring its stories when not blowing them up out of whole cloth. In short; the grifts; cons; and swindles Fenton describes in this delightfully funny book are real. But the question has to be asked: Are they all confined to the space INSIDE the covers?Whatever the answer; the fun to be had in (and for) the asking is immeasurable.
