Art book on a Kindle; maybe not for everyoneBy ACustomerI am adapting to technology just fine; although books and the printed page will always be my true love.I like the concept and content of this book a great deal. However; I am quite sorry that I experimented with it as my first art book for Kindle; because I recently saw the "real" book in; yes; a "real" bookstore; and this book was definitely meant to be paged through; on paper pages; and not "accessed" (In addition to my early version of a Kindle; I use the Kindle reader on another device that has great color; high resolution; etc....).Live and learn. I suppose at some point; I will find the book itself and add it to my bookshelf. Meanwhile; Ill scroll through the pages if Im killing time; but it is not as satisfying to me; personally; to see the work and even words of so many talented artists on a screen. This will be my first and last art-related book purchase for Kindle. Novels and other books; no problem; especially for travel.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Dont bother ...By CustomerLots of "irrelevant" info on the psychology of the various artists - but not much shown in the way of their work - or anything on the actual processes/supplies/etc. that they use to make their art. I found it to be a waste of my time and $.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Community and Connection in the World of Mixed Media!By Robert StocktonThis is an amazing and completely original book! Seth Apter; New York City mixed media artist and psychologist (of famed mixed media blog The Altered Page); has brought together his considerable expertise in each of these fields to create "The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artist Revealed." This is NOT a how-to book explaining or demonstrating mixed media arts techniques. There are many; many of that genre to be found in bookstores; already! This book is an adventure that challenges the reader; artist or not; to delve deep into the psyche of the creative mind; and discover what makes it tick. Thirty-one spotlight artists are introduced in the books early pages; and artwork created by these artists (both self portraits; and other pieces); is featured in the first two sections of the book: "The Artistic Ingredient;" and "Passion In Action." The third section of the book: "Secrets Revealed;" includes artwork by 103 additional artists created around a series of specific themes (such as: "Can you share a secret?"; "What expresses the innermost you?"; "What is your biggest fear?"); suggested to the artists by the author. Throughout all three sections; artist-written responses to a far-reaching variety of questions about their art; and about the creative process illuminate these areas; and extend understanding for the reader; of the creative mind at work (and at play!). In the final analysis; Seth Apters "The Pulse of Mixed Media;" is an inspired meditation on art and artists that becomes far more than the sum of its individual parts. The vision behind this book; and its realization; is simply a continuation of that which its author has been doing for years on The Altered Page: creating community among; and connection between; mixed media artists the world over. Buy this book; now! Revelation and inspiration await!
