Its filled with history of GP over the years. I didnt get a mention but I wasnt in editorial or advertising. A very good book to have if youre interested in who did what at GP in the 70s and 80s.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Forty-two Great Players in Their Own Words AND the Inside Story of a Great Magazine: Stars Everywhere for this Book!By OwlIf you are a guitar player; if you resonate to the music of the guitar greats; if you are fascinated by stories of what created a legendary magazine; or if you just like outstandingly good writing; then "Guitar Player: The Inside Story of the First Two Decades of the Most Successful Guitar Magazine Ever" may be your book of the year.It sure is mine because-- there are 273 pages of pictures; text; and art that deliver exactly whats promised; the inside story of those 1967 to 1987 years--the story is brilliantly conceived as told by editors Jim Crockett Dara Crockett; 26 staffers freelancers; 42 featured artists and monthly columnists; and wonderfully; 15 advertisers.--the photographs include world-class portraits; then and now; as well as more informal shots of jam sessions--the layout and writing meet or may even exceed the spectacularly good "Guitar Player" standard; echoing in some ways that of the magazine. I didnt find one spelling error; any flinch-worthy sentence; anything but a word I usually hesitate to use--but its so true here--production perfection--it lives. This is not dusty-musty; disengaged "history" but it breathes the excitement of those first decades and the impact "Guitar Player" made in shining the spotlight on such amazing talentAny reader alerts? This beautifully-produced; glossy paper; extensive photographs book costs more; granted; than a Kindle or almost disposable paper-back might. "Guitar Player" is a keepers book; worth every dollar; and compared with similar books; it is a terrific value. Will some readers wish Player X; Y; or Z had been included? Probably; but as authors Crockett (Jim) and Crockett (Dara) make clear; they cast a very wide net. While almost all artists agreed to be interviewed; a few didnt. And those interviews---wow! In their own words and are those words as memorable as the music. Special thanks to Dara Crockett; who; writes her Dad; "cajoled; pleaded; begged; and virtually threatened" until Jim Crockett got it together while this living vibrant history was possible.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
