LeavenworthBy JoeThis pictoral introduction to the prison where some of the worst federal criminals have been housed for over a century should be interesting to anyone interested in either military history or crime (at least federal). The old photos are very interesting and you get to meet a few of the inmates a few miles and years removed - you probably wouldnt want to in the real world. This book is part of a series of books; many of which are devoted to World War II; which is how I came upon this book. They have other books on various prisons (Alcatraz; for example) and old west towns (Deadwood; Tombstone - boy; the Chambers of Commerce of those towns must have been cheerful guys!). All of the books have in common the ability to let you see what the places looked like and what the people who were there were like -something mere words like these are unable to do.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great bookBy William LingenfelserI really enjoyed this book one of the better ones covering the Leavenworth Federal Prison; lots of good pictures to give a good image of what it is really like inside the Big House. Ken did a good job organizing the material. Unlike most books about the prison this one is real; great job Ken.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Ken was always a fair ball player but with this book he hit a homerun.By Robert A.I have known Ken for years. He was always really good about finding artifacts and photos of this historic building. I worked there for 27 years and the stories and the people are real. It is too bad you can not feel what the officers feel walking through those three steel gates each date but this book helps you sense some of it. I think you should read it and then get him to write and gather more stories to act as a sequel. Trust me; this book just scratches the surface.............................from heads of the Mafia serving time there to the killing of Mexican Gang leaders on the yard this place was always rocking.
