Beautifully written treasure!By Grandmother LibrarianMartha Cole Whaley is a treasure! I am a 65-yr old Gatlinburg native; but my memories dont compare to that of 103-year old Marthas. Her warmth and love come through in her gracious accounts of times past. She was; and is; a vital part of Gatlinburgs history. Author; Marie Maddox; has artfully written in such a way that I feel as if Ive heard Martha firsthand. She allowed Martha to tell her story; interspersed with anecdotes from friends and family; in a beautifully-woven tapestry. Because of my eyesight; I purchased and read the Kindle edition so I could increase the font. The book is so wonderful I have ordered a print copy for my personal library and one for a family member. Im sure I will give more as gifts. Anyone who loves the Smoky Mountains; Gatlinburg; Appalachia; and strong; gracious women of faith; will love reading this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Still a great place even with the added glitz!By omaomaomaVery interesting look at early Gatlinburg for one who lived through all the changes from 1940 to 2017 by visiting each year. Enjoyed the book very much.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A real treasure for the local history folks!By Julius L McCarterMartha Cole Whaley is my great grandaunt. And this is a wonderful treasure for the local areas history and for its own story. While I was particularly drawn to the early chapters (of her childhood); for obvious; reasons; the entire book is a real treat. Martha; through Marie Maddox; has given me a book that Ill treasure for years to come. Thank you both!
