Les Fleurs du Mal (French Edition)

[audiobook] Les Fleurs du Mal (French Edition) by Charles Baudelaire at Arts-Photography

Description

Despite political upheavals under Muslim domination in the Middle Ages; Palestine was a center of great artistic activity recognized for its incredible dynamism. Its unique contribution to the Islamic ldquo;macrocosm;rdquo; however; never became the subject of extensive study. Numerous archeological excavations on this relatively small geographic area reveal the existence of extremely well preserved monuments of high architectural quality and exceptional religious value. This is what Myriam Rosen-Ayalon exposes in this thorough introduction to Palestinian Islamic art and archeology. In chronological order she presents here for the first time the multifaceted and long-lasting achievements of Islamic art in Palestine; filling the gap of years of neglect on the subject.

I only gave this version four stars because I did not like this translation. I found it to be too literal which slightly detracted from the writing. Personally. my favorite translation is by Norman Shapiro. While Shapiros version is not as literal a translation as this one. I feel he does a better job of retaining the rhythm and essence of Baudelaires writings. Again. that is just my personal preference but I would suggest trying to find Baudelaires writings at a local bookstore or library first so you can compare different translations and see which one you like best before purchasing.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. High marks for form. lower ones for executionBy Flower of EvilWeird! I love that the translating poets went for it in terms of meter and rhyme -- very cool. However. the results are not as faithful as the concept. Still. inspiring -- and Millays intro is a great read.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. but this guy had some great concepts in his poetryBy Jerrett SwarrI am not a fan of Poetry. but this guy had some great concepts in his poetry. Having the French with English translation on the next page really helped me as a native English speaker to get the flow of the poetry and pick up (or disagree with the translator) on the parts I didnt quite understand.
