But the instruction is limited. For example the instruction for painting the Iris is very difficult to follow; hard to actually figure out where she is painting and most of the instruction given is for one petal only. The poppy instruction doesnt even mention lifting out color in the background to produce the petals and leaves. Maybe this book would be better for someone with more knowledge on watercolor painting then I; but then why would they need it? The instruction is neither simple for those amateurs; nor more advanced for those more knowledgeable. There are sketches to copy and use to paint her projects however I find the grid she draws them on to be annoying. Grid lines go through her entire sketch. You can easily enlarge a sketch at a local copy store rather than using this grid approach.I guess I will end up using her paintings to look at and try to reproduce on my own.15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Love this author!!By JustMeI have had the privelege of taking a portrait painting class with Jan Kunz. She is a beautiful person; a great teacher and a wonderful example. I love all her books. I found the instructions on flower design; planning; color warmth; when to use translucent colors; effective use of shadows all taught well.
