I myself lived there with them off and on. Even though we lived there for 4 short years; it gave me some of the greatest memories of my life. The owner; Dr. Martin; only spent about 1 week out of the year on the island; so it felt like ours for the rest of the year. This book elaborates more on the history of the castle than even I knew while we lived there. Most of what we knew; we learned from books in the library and from what Dr. Martins sons told us. Many of the pictures in this book came from postcards that were hand colorized from old black and white photographs (many of which I still have today). There are so many pictures from the history of the castle that I have never seen in this book (and I thought I had seen them all). I havent returned to the castle since Dr. Martins family sold it. It always felt like home...like it was "ours" and to have to pay to take a tour of a place we called home seems weird to me. Seeing the pictures in this book makes me long for a return!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Brief OverviewBy Picabo BobBoth companion books of this home give the flavor of what to expect on a visit and a thorough history. Some would prefer larger and color photos; but then it would be much higher priced. This is a good introduction to determine if a visit is warranted. I believe they sell these same two volumes in the gift shop after a visit too.
