Great Pictures from My ChildhoodBy SailormanAll of these ldquo;Images of Americardquo; books are good; I own several on different locations in Ohio. and I keep hoping for one on Newell. West Virginia and/or Salineville. Ohio. This one is special however. as I grew up in Lisbon. Ohio. and the authorrsquo;s husband was in my graduating class at David Anderson High School. My dad owned and operated several businesses in Lisbon. and my mother was an elementary school teacher in Newell. WV and Lisbon for 29 years (more than 20 in Lisbon). so this book brought back many good. as well as bad. memories.I was somewhat disappointed in that my parents. who were pillars of the community. the Methodist Church. and Masonic Lodge. or my Dadrsquo;s businesses. were not mentioned or pictured in this book.Putting that aside. the book has some excellent historic pictures that gave me the chills. Hamiltonrsquo;s Rexall Drug Store (now long gone) where I was a soda jerk all through four terrible years of high school. The village square with the cannon. town pump and well. the harness shop. Nacersquo;s Drug Store. and the hitching rail. the old volunteer fire station. the theaters. and my Methodist Church. before and after the fire. Simply great pictures of the way things looked when I was a kid and today. For anybody that has never lived in. or visited. this quaint little town (of 3.500 people when. I grew up there) nestled in a beautiful green valley in southeastern Ohio. this book probably has little appeal. But to those of us who. grew up in. lived in. or even passed through on U.S. route 30 on the way to someplace else. this book should be of immense interest. Those that passed through should be interested in learning what they drove by and missed. and maybe go back and spend some time there.Irsquo;ll never be back in Lisbon. Irsquo;ve been gone for more than some lifetimes. and after two tours of duty there. and returns to bury my parents. I will never return. So this book will serve as my final visit.Good Job Ruth Gerrard Cole! I knew your father. one of the finest men Irsquo;ve ever known short of my own father. and he and my dad were friends. And Wendell. your pictures were great! I wish you both well!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good photos.By Michelle KnechtAn interesting view of Lisbon history. Good photos.
