Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art

[ebooks] Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art by Salomeacute; Voegelin at Arts-Photography

Description

Stop doing; stop moving; stop twisting and turning. These are the first steps toward inner calm and increased mental clarity; says psychiatrist and leading meditation practitioner Christophe Andreacute;; who in this book guides us through the art of mindfulness; beginning with art itself. Looking at Mindfulness collects classic and esoteric paintings; from Rembrandt to Hopper to Magritte; and offers a lucid commentary on the inner workings of each. Andreacute; describes the dynamic on the canvas; and turns to the viewers own reactions; exploring the connection between what we see and what we feel. Moving beyond the art on the page; Andreacute; teaches us what it means to consider our surroundings; our daily interactions and obligations; and their effect on our inner well-being. The paintings are a visual and tangible first step to understanding mindfulness and the benefits of living in the moment. In practicing mindfulness; within ourselves and out in the world; each of us can make immediate; meaningful; and permanent changes in our well-being and the well-being of others.Beautifully written; wonderfully accessible for any novice or expert; Looking at Mindfulness delivers practical steps and a comprehensive understanding of the practice and meaning of mindfulness and meditation. An authentic and effortless voice; Andreacute; brings clarity to what it means to live mindfully and how we can make a more conscious effort to do so.From the Hardcover edition.

Good for sports fanatics and hoardersBy SmittyIf you still think youre in college and want to plaster your walls with college sports paraphernalia; or if youre a hoarder and like clutter (what hoarders call collecting) then this book is for you. Most of the caves are overwhelmingly full of dust-collecting tchotchkes that make the room seem one of two things - immature or junky. Other rooms have ridiculous themes; like a strip club theme complete with pole. Im looking to make my room somewhere between a family room and an ultra-expensive theater. Just a mildly classy room with a big TV; good audio system; a couple of racks to display my vintage audio equipment; some acoustic wall treatments; small bar with a back bar; a couple of recliners; a sofa and a sofa-back table. Theres nothing in the book that even comes close to that.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Lots of great ideas for your very own Man Cave.By ShaneThis book has lots of great pictures of man caves. They gave me a lot of great ideas on what to do with my own Man Cave. Lots of variety and neat stuff to look at. The book goes over various themes of ordinary guys Man Caves. Some are just regular; and some are real high dollar. So it covers the whole spectrum. I found many great ideas in this book; so you can get a little something from other man cave owners. There are also short interviews with the owners explaining a little about each one. Great book to gather various ideas for you to start working on your very own man cave!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
