Description

The Venetian Origins of the Commedia dellArte is a striking new enquiry into the late-Renaissance stirrings of professional secular comedy in Venice; and their connection to the development of what came to be known as the Commedia dellrsquo;Arte. The book contends that through a symbiotic collaboration between patrician amateurs and plebeian professionals; innovative forms of comedy developed in the Venice region; fusing lsquo;highrsquo; and lsquo;lowrsquo; culture in a provocative mix that had a truly mass appeal. Rich with anecdotes; diary entries and literary ndash; often ribald ndash; comic passages; Peter Jordans central argument has important implications for the study of Venetian art; popular theatre and European cultural history.

Then goes on to cover the current bridges. Also at the end; it covers bridges built over the last few years: A progression through time. Most books I have read in the past only cover bridges still around; except to mention the bridges no longer there. This book tells a bit about them as well as pictures.I got this book because I wanted to see something about the new longest bridge in the U.S.: Smolen- Gulf that replaces Cornish/ Windsor which is in my neck of the woods.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book!By Kimberly B.This is the book to buy if you want to learn about the HISTORY of Ashtabula Countys covered bridges. I had downloaded this from the library on my kindle and I found myself highlighting so many notes that I ended up buying the paperback. Money well spent! A lot of interesting facts; a lot of old pictures and information on bridges that no longer exist. I would have loved to see more pictures!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The Covered Bridges of Ashtabula CountyBy sarah dreesEven though I have lived in Ashtabula county for almost thirty years; driven through several of the covered bridges; and attended the yearly covered bridge festival I found this book to be a well-written and informative history of the past and present covered bridges of Ashtabula County. The author has included pictures of several of the by-gone bridges and photographs that he personally took of the existing bridges..
