Loot: The Battle over the Stolen Treasures of the Ancient World

[DOC] Loot: The Battle over the Stolen Treasures of the Ancient World by Sharon Waxman at Arts-Photography

Description

ldquo; The essential history of this distinctly American genre.rdquo;mdash;Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionIn this ldquo;expertly researched; elegantly written; dispassionate yet thoughtful historyrdquo; (Gary Giddins); award-winning author Ted Gioia gives us ldquo;the rare combination of a tome that is both deeply informative and enjoyable to readrdquo; (Publishers Weekly; starred review). From the field hollers of nineteenth-century plantations to Muddy Waters and B.B. King; Delta Blues delves into the uneasy mix of race and money at the point where traditional music became commercial and bluesmen found new audiences of thousands. Combining extensive fieldwork; archival research; interviews with living musicians; and first-person accounts with ldquo;his own calm; argument-closing incantations to draw a line through a century of Delta bluesrdquo; (New York Times); this engrossing narrative is flavored with insightful and vivid musical descriptions that ensure ldquo;an understanding of not only the musicians; but the music itselfrdquo; (Boston Sunday Globe). Rooted in the thick-as-tar Delta soil; Delta Blues is already ldquo;a contemporary classic in its fieldrdquo; (Jazz Review).

I loved all of the personal histories of many African American Hawaiians.Wonderful recognition of yet one of hundreds of contributions by the Buffalo Soldiers are detailed in this book. I knew much of this being a descendant of a Buffalo Soldier of the Spanish - American War. Yet another road built by the Buffalo Soldiers and its at Volcanoes Nat. Park.Valuable information hidden; forgotten or purposely ignored no more. This is a must read. Barack Obama is standing on the shoulders of thousands of Black Hawaiians that made their mark on the islands hundreds of years ago.
