Rockford rightly prizes its prosperous heritage; earned by manufacturing concerns like the Rockford Watch Factory and the Manny Reaper Company. But the town once named Midway also harbors a history of crime and calamity. Gunfire broke out in the streets when networks of Prohibition informants slid sideways. In 1893; John Hart forced his own sisters to drink poison. Three years later; James French shot down his wife in the street. Over the years; a courthouse collapsed; a factory exploded and trains collided. Join local historian Kathi Kresol as she explores the mayhem milling about in Rockfords past.

The Perfect Traditional Russian Wedding Historical Textbook!By Curt Allred"Traditional Russian Peoples Weddings"; by Alla Leonidovna CokolovaFor anyone interested in such things; this book is perfection. It describes in detail the many traditions associated with Russian (and by extension; Slavic in general) courtship and wedding practices; providing colored illustrations; with older BW photos; if no colored were available. The author cites all the traditions she references; giving fairly precise dates when they were first mentioned in the literature; and describes the reasons behind them.True; it is in Russian. But given our readily-available access to online translation services; that really should not be a problem for the serious student of history. Plus; having the Russian names for everything at hand makes it easy to do further research on any particular topic.Wedding traditions were incredibly important in medieval Slavic society (as in most societies); and much of the interaction between people and within the community centered on the bringing together of a young man and woman to take their place in society as a married unit and productive household. This book dispels some of the misinformation regarding Russian marriage practices; and provides solid; real detail about the genuine.
