Calif book readerI just read the article that was in the Contra Costa Times newspaper about Ricks book and how he wanted to do the book about the Italian social clubs there in Oakland. The Fratellanza; Ligure; Colombo; Liberty. They made him broaden his scope. Which is fine. I just wished it would have covered more of the 40s; 50s 60s. Most of it goes way before that. More weddings; more young people would have been nice. Some cemetery stuff is always nice in these Arcadia books. More on the Oakland Scavenger Company. I didnt see one word or photo about Sacred Heart Church at 40th and Grove Sts. Now thats where so many weddings and funerals were held. Im real surprised. I grew up in the East Bay and lived in North Oakland for many years too. Knew lots of Italians and always admired them. Glad to have this book.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Loved This BookBy 13Teddy13I was born and raised in this area of Oakland. My fathers family immigrated from Italy in 1907. Even though my mother was an Englsih War Bride; I was raised next door to my fathers Italian family. I am also working on my familys genealogy so this book is perfect. I especially love looking through all the photos.
