Description

Bad experiences with construction quality; the energy crises of 1973 and 1979;complaints about `sick buildings?; thermal; acoustical; visual and olfactory discomfort; the need for good air quality; the move towards more sustainability ? all these have accelerated the development of a field that; for a long time; was hardly more than an academic exercise: building physics. The discipline embraces domains such as heat and mass transfer; building acoustics; lighting; indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency. In some countries; fire safety is also included. Through the application of physical knowledge and its combination with information coming from other disciplines; the field helps to understand the physical phenomena governing building parts; building envelope; whole building and built environment performance; although for the last the wording `urban physics? is used. Building physics has a real impact on performance-based building design. This volume on `Applied Building Physics? discusses the heat; air and moisture performance metrics that affect building design; construction and retrofitting.

He was born and raised in North Dakota and he really enjoyed this book; as it brought back a lot of memories for him. Ive been working on a family ancestry project for the last few years and this book really helped me to have an understanding of what it was like for him growing up. This is an excellent book series and Ive purchased other copies in the past as gifts; about various towns; and the books are always warmly received.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. One for the boy from the prairieBy C. CarlWe recently celebrated my husbands 70th birthday and invited his high school chums from North Dakota to join us. It was such fun for my husband to have this photo essay available to share with his friends. It brought back wonderful memories of growing up on a large farm and going to a one room prairie school. While looking at it for the first time he continually commented on this picture or that photo with genuine enthusiasm. Thank you for having this wonderful documentation of North Dakotas early days! We love it! It will be revisited time and again.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Paul Louis AndreGREAT book!!!!
