The cave art of Francersquo;s Dordogne region is world-famous for the mythology and beauty of its remarkable drawings and paintings. These ancient images of lively bison; horses; and mammoths; as well as symbols of all kinds; are fascinating touchstones in the development of human culture; demonstrating how far humankind has come and reminding us of the ties that bind us across the ages.Over more than twenty-five years of teaching and research; Christine Desdemaines-Hugon has become an unrivaled expert in the cave art and artists of the Dordogne region. In her new book she combines her expertise in both art and archaeology to convey an intimate understanding of the ldquo;cave experience.rdquo; Her keen insights communicate not only the incomparable artistic value of these works but also the near-spiritual impact of viewing them for oneself.Focusing on five fascinating sites; including the famed Font de Gaume and others that still remain open to the public; Stepping-Stones reveals striking similarities between art forms of the Paleolithic and works of modern artists and gives us a unique pathway toward understanding the culture of the Dordogne Paleolithic peoples and how it still touches our lives today.

Good Fundamentals....OutdatedBy Robi RattMitch is probably one of the foremost gurus of recording and instruments.....Id LOVE to get his.complete Sweetwater recording system on DVD......This book is ideal. if your just starting out. know absolutely nothing abobut what a signal is or the Analog to Digital conversion and its reciprocal....Basically the First book needed to explain the Complete BASICS of how a signal is created and processed......but its WAY out of date as far as equipment and Software....which has also changed the way things are done today....But.....a test......Do You Know what a Sine Wave is...period.....if you answer is "what do my sinuses have to do with it"......Then Buy it. read and re-read each section till you understand it.....Then check out the "Sound on Sound" website to learn tons more......"Tape-OP" is another. and the print magazine is free.....Plus theres tons of Home Recording websites which will modernize things for you....assuming your interested in just Home Recording.....Otherwise. the book may help you decide if its a career for you.....in which case.....start looking online for Pro Recording Schools....theres even decent online courses.....but you wont have the Big Boy Toys to practice and learn on....Good Luck!!4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Thorough. yet EZBy Edna MayI have a lot of books on this subject. but this is the easiest and most clearly written book for the beginning home recordist I have seen. Mitch knows his business and also how to teach. He includes all necessary technical terms but explains them through simple analogy. Its almost like having a personal tutor there to help you. He anticipates and provides soulutiions for common problems that may. and probably will. arise. The book is thorough in that he takes you from shopping for and buying the right equipment. to recording and burning your music CD and distributing it online.9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A Must Have for all interested in learning home recording!!!By Dean MassalskyMake Music Now!: Putting Your Studio Together. Recording Songs. Making CDs. and Distributing Online by Mitch Gallagher (Editor)This inexpensive book is one of the best small recording/music production information sources I have read. It covers many topics. with enough detail to give a firm understanding for the novice-intermediate home recording musician. while at the same time not overwhelming him/her. It is easy to read. well divided by topic and extremely affordable. It is also thin enough to pop into your laptop case. Id highly recommend buying a copy to anyone confused by the ANY key concepts in recording or home music production. This is a MUST have. I work for a public school system. and this book would also make an excellent text for any teachers interested in adding recording/MIDI to their curriculum.BUY IT!
