[ebooks] Making The Elephant Man: A Producerrsquo;s Memoir by Jonathan Sanger at Arts-Photography

Description

Oh; Misha; its terrible to be an educated woman. An educated woman with nothing to do. What am I here for? Why am I alive? They should make me a professor somewhere; or a director of something ... If I were a diplomat Id turn the whole world upside down ... An educated woman ... And nothing to do.Village schoolmaster Mikhail Vasilyevich has it all: wit; intelligence; a comfortable and respectable life in provincial Russia; and the attentions of four beautiful women - one of whom is his devoted wifehellip; As summer arrives and the seasonal festivities commence; the rapidly intensifying heat makes everyone giddy with sunlight; vodka ndash; and passion.Michael Frayns comedy of errors; drawn from Chekhovs untitled and posthumously discovered early play; is a tale of nineteenth-century Russian life replete with classic misunderstandings; irrepressible desires and nostalgia for a vanishing world. Wild Honey received its premiere in the National Theatres Lyttelton space; London; on 19 July 1984. This edition was published for the revival at the Hampstead Theatre in December 2016.

And his memoir of making The Elephant Man is a real treat to read. Producer Sanger is candid about the elephant sized headaches he encountered. including a stomach churning makeup disaster that nearly collapsed the entire production. Thats probably about the point that any producer wants to jump off a bridge. Sanger also clears up some misconceptions about who exactly produced what and theres a slight hint of bitterness towards Stuart Cornfeld. And it truly boggles the mind that Freddie Francis and Christopher Tucker werent nominated for Oscars. As for the film. well. as one character in the film succintly puts it: "for the right price. you will see something that you will never. ever see again in your life."2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ... recall is to our benefit as he chronicles with great accuracy the details of the making of the brilliant ...By ricky1818Jonathan Sangers extraordinary gift of recall is to our benefit as he chronicles with great accuracy the details of the making of the brilliant and beloved film.
