Medieval Islamic swords and swordmaking (Gibb Memorial Trust Arabic Studies)

[PDF] Medieval Islamic swords and swordmaking (Gibb Memorial Trust Arabic Studies) by Robert G. Hoyland; Brian Gilmour in Arts-Photography

Description

In Refrains for Moving Bodies; Derek P. McCormack explores the kinds of experiments with experience that can take place in the affective spaces generated when bodies move. Drawing out new connections between thinkers including Henri Lefebvre; William James; John Dewey; Gregory Bateson; Feacute;lix Guattari; and Gilles Deleuze; McCormack argues for a critically affirmative experimentalism responsive to the opportunities such spaces provide for rethinking and remaking maps of experience. Foregrounding the rhythmic and atmospheric qualities of these spaces; he demonstrates the particular value of Deleuze and Guattaris concept of the "refrain" for thinking and diagramming affect; bodies; and space-times together in creative ways; putting this concept to work to animate empirical encounters with practices and technologies as varied as dance therapy; choreography; radio sports commentary; and music video. What emerges are geographies of experimental participation that perform and disclose inventive ways of thinking within the myriad spaces where the affective capacities of bodies are modulated through moving.

I would not spend any money on this book...lacking in detail...but for free; its a fun download for younger kids.By ElizabethThis particular book is just ok but the photos are fantastic. The format for this book is the same as most of the Baby Professor books in this series which have a picture with a paragraph and facts on one page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page too. Ive come to realize that these Baby Professor books usually have something that could make them better; but so many of these books are offered for free and the pictures really are amazing; so its tough to complain too much. This book talks about the 5 great oceans!....but only names the two biggest; Pacific and Atlantic. Ugh! Really? There are so many pages with just a picture; why couldnt they have named the other 3; if even just on one page. Anyway; this Baby Professor book is defiantly not one of my favorites. And I wouldve been disappointed if I paid even just $1 for it. Its free now though. Also; this is a 5th grade book but I would say its for younger kids. My 2nd grader would enjoy flipping through this book. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book.Anyway; overall; I do like theses books for their wonderful pictures. It would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest review. *****2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Short book great for kidsBy Hippie BloggerThe book ldquo;5th Grade Geography: Seas and Oceans of the Worldrdquo; is one of the books in a series of educational books written by Professor Baby and published by Speedy Publishing. This book; which is a part of the ldquo;Childrens Oceanography Booksrdquo; series; provides children with a chance to learn about geography in a fun and exciting way. These books are filled with exceptional photographs and content geared towards capturing a 5th graders attention span. Easy and fun to read! These books are excellent for use in the classroom or at home. Excellent tool to help children not only learn about geography; but it helps to encourage them to read as well. This colorful short book provides children with a brief overview on the difference between seas and oceans. Beautiful; detailed; colored photos along with age appropriate descriptions and fun facts about the Mediterranean Sea; the Pacific Ocean; and the Atlanta Ocean can all be found in this book. These books are great conversation starters for children. The beautiful pictures open up a dialogue for children to express what they see and what they understand by looking at the photographs. Finally; a good tip for parents- these books are great for bedtime! Quick and easy to read; while also providing a little education to your child.I viewed the Kindle version of this book. I was able to successfully download and open the book with my Kindle App with no problems or difficulty. I received this book at a discount in exchange for my honest review. I havenrsquo;t received any kind of compensation and I am not required to give a good review. I am also not associated with the seller or publisher in any way. If my review was helpful to you; please vote ldquo;Yesrdquo; below.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Short; not really 5th grade levelBy CustomerI purchased this book thinking that it would help my son with his 5th grade geography and be interesting for him; too.It is so short that it took less than five minutes to read. It is less than 20 pages and only 8 of them have words on them. The pages with words are probably averaging a word count of 10 or less. It does have some beautiful pictures; though. While the information is factual in the book; it is not something that I would find particularly helpful for students. Having spent many years working in a library; this is the type of book that I would not expect to get checked out and here is why...it has 5th grade in the title; but when a 5th grades looks at it; the book looks like it is a picture book for a kindergarten student. Another thing about the Kindle version of this book is that it is only available to read on a landscape setting because of the picture sizes. While this did not bother me; it did seem unusual.Overall; I would not necessarily recommend this book unless you are looking for some great pictures of the oceans and seas of the world.I received this book for free in return for my unbiased review of this product. I am neither affiliated with the author; nor the companies associated with the distribution of the book. I only accept items that are items I feel my family will like and use and try to give my honest opinions for the consumers interested in those products. While I am generally only looking for items I think I will like; I will leave positive or negative reviews as an item warrants.
