From Nelson George; supervising producer and writer of the hit Netflix series; "The Get Down;" this passionate and provocative book tells the complete story of black music in the last fifty years; and in doing so outlines the perilous position of black culture within white American society. In a fast-paced narrative; Nelson Georgersquo;s book chronicles the rise and fall of ldquo;race musicrdquo; and its transformation into the RB that eventually dominated the airwaves only to find itself diluted and submerged as crossover music. From the Trade Paperback edition.

This is the play Shakespeare based The Comedy of Errors on. The Shakespeare version is much more sophisticated. but the mistaken identify is still fun here. In Menaechmi. there is only one set of twins though the slave is still important. One twin sets him free. but not the brother who really owns him. and that causes some of the ensuing confusion. The courtesan is a much bigger part. and the wife has a much smaller part. Indeed. Mrs. Menaechmus does not have a name. though her father-in-law does. One of the most striking things in comparing the two plays is how much more Shakespeares England respects women than Plautuss Rome. This is an easy-to-read source in translation. but it demonstrates that while Plautus is clever. Shakespeare is the master.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
