Metaphors for the Musician

[ebooks] Metaphors for the Musician by Randy Halberstadt in Arts-Photography

Description

This is the story of the history-making hat that has been a part of Australian life since 1912. In Akubra Is Australian for Hat; Grenville Turner takes us on a journey with this unique Australian institution.Aussies have lived; loved; and died under their Akubras; and wearing one has been a longstanding tradition throughout the continent. The Akubra does it all. It provides shade from the harsh Australian sun; works as a fan on a hot day; keeps snakes at bay; serves as a water jug for a horse; and swats away flies. It can even be worn as a hat. Go figure. This book isnt just about history. Its tone is witty and lighthearted; and breathes that famous Aussie attitude--youll have no worries as long as you have your Akubra in hand (or on head.)

His writing style is very accessible and his explanations are clear (hooray for metaphors!). Most important. his exercises and tips really work -- theyre great. Several pianists - including my private teacher - have recommended "Metaphors for the Musician" and I am grateful for the advice. Thank you to them and a very special "thank you" to Randy!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great Exercises and Insights for the Aspiring Pianist/ImproviserBy AlexExcellent stuff. Ive bought many books to help me on the road to improvisational proficiency but this one along with Jazz Improv by Jimmy Amadie have stood out to me because: they are organized and because the exercises are structured in an effective manner to keep you sharp mentally and to drill you on your knowledge of key/harmony.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Useful For Musicians Who Are Willing To Put In The TimeBy Michael GlavianoThis book is meant to be studied. And practiced. Its not intended to be read and put on the shelf. Youre supposed to read parts. practice what youve read. etc. Its focused on keyboard players. but other instrumentalists can also benefit from it. I play guitar but discuss parts of the book w/ a keyboard player. Worthwhile.
